If Chosen is one of my favorite books in the House of Night series Untamed is my other favorite. In the last book original mean girl Aphrodite not only became the only safe person for super chosen one Zoey to be close to, she also gave up the one thing she probably loved more than her life, her vampyre-ness, in order to save Zoey’s bff and original Red Fledgling, Stevie Rae.
Untamed starts with a ton of fall out. Now everyone knows that Zoey has been keeping a lot from them. They know Nefert is the bad guy. They know things are really bad, not just manipulative and nasty, but end of the world bad. And Erik knows at least part of the story behind Zoey and Loren. The problem is Erik’s own nasty side takes over and he says some really mean things to Zoey.
Zoey and her friends decide it is absolutely time to take the offensive. Zoey decides when the high priestess of all vampyres shows up it’s time to expose Nefert. The problem: this is a group of teens taking on a very manipulative, much older vampyre. No matter how good Zoey’s plan the odds are still decidedly stacked against her.
At this point, readers should wonder if being the super powerful magic chosen one is going to be enough. This reality check is a nice balance to all the new power-new tattoos, beloved of the goddess stuff. And while I found the teen angst over friends and boys to be out of proportion, let’s face it to teens and young adults facing their own massive life changes, like wondering if love and friendship will past once high school gives way to college or real life.
