Book Review: Pretty Deadly v. 1: The Shrike
While Pretty Deadly volume 1 boasts some aggravating and “evocative” rather than clearly understandable art work, I ended up really liking the weird western-fairly tale vibe.
A motley crew of characters come together to protect a mysterious child from Alice, the daughter of Death who also has plenty of rage at the man raising this mysterious child. (He abused her mother.) The tangled plot continues, exploring multiple corners and interpretations of existence.
A dark, lovely break from superheroes (think Pan’s Labyrinth in feel), I really enjoyed it and recommend it for dark fantasy lovers.
Recommended for private and public collections, especially those looking for graphic novels other than typical comic fare.
Contains: violence, gore, nudity, on screen sex, language
