New TALES FROM THE CRYPT Graphic Novel Presents Parodies “Diary of a Stinky Dead Kid” and “DieLite”

Advance buzz makes it hit BN.com kids’ best-seller list one month ahead of publication!

Sick of dopey diaries from countless whiny wimps or never-ending sappy vampire romances? Well, so is The Crypt-Keeper, and in the all-new TALES FROM THE CRYPT Graphic Novel from Papercutz he retaliates with “Diary of a Stinky Dead Kid” and “DieLite,” two painfully funny parodies of these putrid pop-culture trends.

“Diary of a Stinky Dead Kid” features the hand-drawn and scrawled diary of a recently deceased suburban boy named Glugg (or at least we think that’s his name – zombies aren’t all that easy to understand). Glugg’s post-life experiences include discovering who actually killed him, and who brought him back from the dead. Diary entries deal with such mundane matters as how to get your best friend to help you reattach your arm:

“Once I promised not to eat his brain… he ran all over the house, got needle and thread, crazy glue and duct tape, and tried to stick it back on.”

As well as more esoteric musings:

“So here I am stuck in the cemetery just because the neighbors complained about the ‘strange’ smell. I tried showering, but pieces of me kept coming off.”

He also gets into a wicked game of Guitar Demon, but that’s literally another story that fortunately is also included in TALES FROM THE CRYPT Graphic Novel #8. Both stories are by writer Stefan Petrucha and artist Rick Parker.

In “DieLite” Lou Anne Lugosi becomes the unwelcoming object of Dedward Collins’s affections. While Dedward may think he’s all that, Lou Anne doesn’t think so. She’s suddenly stalked by the pretty-boy vamp at home and at school and can’t get rid of him until she resorts to drastic measures and is able to Twilight Zone him out for good.:

“…despite her initial hesitancy she now recognizes the deep longing in her heart that only a living corpse can fill! She wants to meet me in a deserted church in a garlic field! How sweet! And she gave me a bottle of sun tan lotion! How thoughtful!”

Written by Stefan Petrucha, Maia Kinney-Petrucha and painted by Miran Kim.

Also included in this monster mash-up is “Carrier” a different type of werewolf story by writer John L. Lansdale and artists James Romberger and Marguerite Van Cook.

TALES FROM THE CRYPT #8 “Diary of a Stinky Dead Kid” from publisher Papercutz continues to offer up scare-fare suitable to readers 10 and up, in the tradition of the original EC Comics horror comicbook that combines thrills, chills, and satire in all-new, full-color, 96-page volumes available in both paperback ($7.95, ISBN 978-1-59707-163-5) and hardcover ($12.95, ISBN 978-1-59707-164-2) editions. Publication: 11/10/09.

RAVENOUS ROMANCE™ RELEASES ZOMBIE LOVE ANTHOLOGY AND SELLS PRINT RIGHTS TO ST. MARTIN’S PRESS

October 29, 2009 – New York, NY

They said it couldn't be done, so digital publisher Ravenous Romance took the challenge and published HUNGRY FOR YOUR LOVE: An Anthology of Zombie Romance, edited by Lori Perkins.

Ravenous Romance has sold print rights to St. Martin's Press, which plans to publish the book in trade paperback next Halloween.

Following in the footsteps of the amazing cross-genre popularity of such new classics as Pride, Prejudice and Zombies and Breathers, HUNGRY FOR YOUR LOVE brings together best-selling horror and romance authors. Zombie masters Brian Keene (The Rising) and John Skipp (writing as Gina McQueen) are in this volume, as well as new stories by Michael Marshall Smith, Francesca Lia Block and New York Times best-selling author Lois Gresh.

"The zombie mythos is as expansive as the vampire mythos," said Lori Perkins. "In these recessionary times, we're all zombies paying off our bloated mortgages and working for blood-sucking corporations in the aftermath of the Bush Boom, which was a metaphor for vampiric greed."

HUNGRY FOR YOUR LOVE features stories of the lost and re-animated, love among the undead, love among zombie hunters, and even a zombie noir story. It is available as an ebook on www.ravenousromance.com, www.allromanceebooks.com, and will soon be available for Amazon Kindle and on www.fictionwise.com.

He Stepped Through tells the tale of crooked L.A. Detective Walker and others on both sides of the law as they investigate the words He stepped through, which start popping up all over Los Angeles. A gunman speaks the words after shooting up a burger joint. A gangbanger wakes at the scene of a slaughter to find the words scrawled across the wall in blood. A beat cop finds herself drawn to words. What do they mean?

Its a Lovecraftian story at heart, says Southard. Im a huge fan of those ideas, that theres this world just barely hidden by our own, and bringing some of those ideas into the present played a big part in writing He Stepped Through. Its an episode of The Shield where things go down a much weirder, much darker street.

Nate Southard is the author of the books Just Like Hell and Broken Skin, as well as the graphic novels Drive, A Trip to Rundberg, and Brian Keenes Fear, an adaptation of several Keene short stories. You can learn more at www.natesouthard.com.

The new short novel to be published by Thunderstorm Books

Cover art by BFS Award-winner Vincent Chong

Introduction by bestselling author Mike Carey (Felix Castor novels/Lucifer/X-Men)

Fear of the dark. It’s one of the most common phobias, especially when we’re growing up. For teenager Lee Masterton, his deepest childhood fears are about to become a reality – because not only will he discover that the things living in the darkness are real, he will also find himself in the middle of a war between them and the forces of light. Set against the normal, everyday backdrop of a council estate, the future of humanity will be decided by the outcome of these events. As Lee’s family and his friends are threatened, he must face up to and conquer his terrors. Because Lee has a very special destiny, and his fate and that of the world’s is soon to be dangerously linked... From the imagination of award-winning author Paul Kane (Touching the Flame, The Lazarus Condition, The Hellraiser Films And Their Legacy, Arrowhead, RED) comes a short novel that will make you re-evaluate both the darkness and the light. And everything in-between. Unique in its perspective, by the time you have read this powerful tale you will no longer be the same.

Are you afraid of the dark? No? You will be.

‘Paul Kane knows how to make you want to avoid the shadows and the cracks in the pavement.’

From author Greg Lamberson

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
'SLIME CITY SURVIVOR' Webisode Series Wraps; Phil Gallo, Stephen Romano and Mars Post SLIME CITY MASSACRE
CONTACT: Greg Lamberson, glamberson@verizon.net
The 26th and final segment of the SLIME CITY SURVIVOR webisode series, detailing the production of SLIME CITY MASSACRE, has gone live. The episode features an interview with Roy Frumkes, who appears in the film as Ronald Crump, a villainous real estate tycoon who hires a group of mercenaries to wipe out Slime City's homeless population. Frumkes discusses STREET TRASH and STREET TRASH 3 in addition to SLIME CITY MASSACRE, which was written and directed by Gregory Lamberson and produced by Marc J. Makowski. The film stars Debbie Rochon, Lee Perkins and newcomers Jennifer Bihl and horror author Kealan Patrick Burke.

"Phil Gallo has completed the first cut of the film and I couldn't be happier with his work," says Lamberson. "Phil composed the score for the original MOTHER'S DAY and directed the crime drama WEST NEW YORK and a quirky indie comedy called MATTIE FRESNO AND THE HOLFLUX UNIVERSE, so he understands horror, he understands action, and he understands character moments, all of which come into play in SCM. Mars from Dead House Music is almost finished with the score, and it's a fantastic piece of work, very memorable. In addition, Stephen Romano (SHOCK FESTIVAL) has completed 10 of the paintings I commissioned for our title sequence; they're really striking. Now a big chunk of the remaining work falls to R.J. Sevin of Creeping Hemlock Press and Arick Sczymecki, who are in charge of our digital effects."

SLIME CITY MASSACRE will be completed by the end of this year, and Lamberson has already arranged its world premiere at a film festival in February; an announcement is forthcoming.

"One unusual aspect of this film from a production standpoint is just how many of its personnel are also involved with horror publising," says Lamberson. "Besides Kealan and R.J., our executive producer is noted short story writer and publisher John Maclay; Richard Chizmar from Cemetery Dance publications is an associate producer; Sephera Giron, who has a role, is a horror and erotica author; and Medallion Press, which just published my novel PERSONAL DEMONS, has put up the completion money through their new division, Medallion Movies. So it's a real melting pot of people from the two different horror mediums."

SLIME CITY MASSACRE co-stars Robert Sabin and Mary Bogle, who starred in the original, and Brooke Lewis. The film features appearances by such Lamberson alumni as Dick Biel (SPLATTER UNIVERSITY), Tom Sweeeny and T.J. Merrick, and a special "disappearance" by Lloyd Kaufman. Lamberson is previewing scenes from the film at the Central Terminal Halloween Bash, featuring Rochon as a guest, in Buffalo this Saturday, October 24th.
