Mercer, 2020<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>ISBN-13: \u00a09781542093804<\/p>\n<p>Available: Hardcover, paperback, Kindle edition<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Eve Ronin has only been in the Robbery-Homicide Department for three months.\u00a0 Her partner, Duncan \u2018Donuts\u2019 Pavone, is counting the days until retirement.\u00a0 He is training her in the ins and outs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s Department and how to work with the other police organizations, something that is proving to be tricky since she already has a reputation.\u00a0 She recently busted the action hero actor of a series of movies called <em>Deathfist <\/em>in a video that went viral, and then took advantage of\u00a0 her unwanted notoriety to leapfrog over the officers that had spent years working toward the position.\u00a0 It hasn&#8217;t gone over well.\u00a0 Duncan puts Eve in charge of a new case.\u00a0 An unwed mother, her two kids, and their dog are missing, and their apartment was drenched in blood.\u00a0 It is a case that will either make her career or break it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Lost Hills<\/em> was a well-written procedural crime fiction story.\u00a0 It had a lot of detailed police procedures built into it that gave it an air of authenticity.\u00a0 At times, the level of detail was a bit much for me, but it didn\u2019t break the story. \u00a0Instead, it gave me a strong sense of how complicated the legal system was at the police officer\u2019s level.\u00a0 The pacing and action flowed well, leading through the plot and its twists.\u00a0 The plot wasn\u2019t the most complicated thing, but it was full of great action.\u00a0 I really liked the ending climax!\u00a0 The characters were believable, and I could picture them as they went about the investigation.\u00a0 The dialogue fit each of them well.\u00a0 The descriptions were good, with just enough detail so that I knew what was going on.\u00a0 A fun piece of set dressing was that the story was in Los Angeles, and the author worked in some interesting bits of trivia.\u00a0 It started kind of slow for me, but once it got going, I had to hang on.<\/p>\n<p>All in all, it was a great procedural crime fiction piece and worth reading.\u00a0\u00a0Recommended for adult readers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Contains:\u00a0 Swearing, adult situations, gore, violence.<\/p>\n<p>Reviewed by:\u00a0 Aaron Fletcher<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0Lost Hills by Lee Goldberg (\u00a0 Bookshop.org\u00a0 | \u00a0Amazon.com ) Thomas &amp;
