{"id":10109,"date":"2024-02-26T22:15:44","date_gmt":"2024-02-27T02:15:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monsterlibrarian.com\/TheCirculationDesk\/?p=10109"},"modified":"2024-02-26T22:15:44","modified_gmt":"2024-02-27T02:15:44","slug":"book-review-the-man-who-killed-his-wife-and-what-happened-afterward-by-wol-vriey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monsterlibrarian.com\/TheCirculationDesk\/book-review-the-man-who-killed-his-wife-and-what-happened-afterward-by-wol-vriey\/","title":{"rendered":"Book Review: The Man Who Killed His Wife (and What Happened Afterward) by Wol-vriey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monsterlibrarian.com\/TheCirculationDesk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/The_Man_Who_Killed_His_Wife_Wolvriey.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-10112\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monsterlibrarian.com\/TheCirculationDesk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/The_Man_Who_Killed_His_Wife_Wolvriey-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"cover art for The Man Who KIlled His Wife (and What Happened Afterward) by Wol-vriey\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.monsterlibrarian.com\/TheCirculationDesk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/The_Man_Who_Killed_His_Wife_Wolvriey-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.monsterlibrarian.com\/TheCirculationDesk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/The_Man_Who_Killed_His_Wife_Wolvriey.jpg 257w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>The Man Who Killed His Wife (and What Happened Afterward)<\/em> by Wol-vriey<\/p>\n<p>Blood Bound Publishing, 2023<\/p>\n<p>ISBN: 9781948278690<\/p>\n<p>Available: Paperback, Kindle edition<\/p>\n<p><strong>Buy:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/a\/3144\/9781948278690\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bookshop.org<\/a> |\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/42QcLCt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amazon..com<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Wol-vriey\u2019s latest is so nutty that readers might just laugh at the absurdity of it all, and that\u2019s not a bad thing.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a merry-go-round of horror craziness, like his last one.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Maryanne Wilson wants to get pregnant, but her poor, overworked husband Bob simply doesn&#8217;t have the energy for bedroom fun.\u00a0 So, she turns to her neighbor (who of course happens to be a witch) for a demon sex charm.\u00a0 That works until an argument with Bob ends in her accidental death.\u00a0 Unfortunately, the charm causes Bob to have sex with her corpse, which makes him leery of calling the cops.\u00a0 So, he enlists the help of another neighbor (who of course is a top-level computer hacker) to dispose of the body and come up with a viable explanation.\u00a0 Naturally, nothing goes right for Bob.\u00a0 Ashley, the hacker, is a psychotic sadist who wants payment in pain, the corpse won\u2019t stay dead, and there\u2019s the matter of the little blue demon who eats everyone he finds.\u00a0 It\u2019s a tragic comedy of errors for everyone involved.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Enjoying this means not taking it too seriously, as Bob constantly makes boneheaded decisions that no rational person would.\u00a0 While skipping details to avoid spoilers, let\u2019s say Bob probably could have got out of his mess in less painful ways.\u00a0 Plus, this must be some apartment building, as it has a witch with real powers and an ace computer whiz with government connections under the same roof.\u00a0 Who knew they were this common?\u00a0 That\u2019s why it\u2019s important to remember, none of that matters in this type of fiction.\u00a0 It\u2019s meant to be fun and not taken too seriously, much like some of the pulp writing of yesteryear.\u00a0 And, fun this is.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As always with this author, the book speeds along, with no deep soliloquies or wasted time.\u00a0 Despite the pain and gore that show up (and, if you\u2019ve read Wol-vriey before, this isn\u2019t as brutal as some of his other works) the book still has a somewhat lighthearted touch compared to some of his darker, more \u2018serious\u2019 efforts.\u00a0 The little blue demon goes a long way towards keeping this from getting too ugly: it\u2019s such an obnoxious eating machine that you have to chuckle at it, and its final fate is hilarious.\u00a0 Some of Ashley\u2019s ridiculously painful ideas of a good time (and her amusing notes afterwards) also keep the story trending that way.\u00a0 Quite over the top, but still entertaining.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bottom line?\u00a0 This isn\u2019t a book to terrify readers, or bowl them over with its profound nature.\u00a0 It\u2019s just big, goofy horror fun, and should keep the author\u2019s fans happy until the next one.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Reviewed by Murray Samuelson<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
