Blue Bloods: The Graphic Novel

Author: Melissa de la Cruz, Robert Venditti

Illustrator: Alina Urusov

The story: A bunch of rich kids are about to find out that they’re fallen angels/serial immortals/vampires. And that their “parents” are hiding a deep secret that wants to kill them.

The graphic novel: This isn’t the best way to experience the story, because of course you miss out on a lot of the detail that forms the characters. Namely there’s no real way to be inside a character’s head reading through the graphic novel rather than the book. At best it’s a cliff notes version of the first book.

A very pretty, gorgeously drawn cliff notes that teases that old fan wonderment with “what would this LOOK like?” I did like the graphic novel. Loved the art, the mood, the characters. But I’m also glad I read the book first and recommend them that way to other readers.
